Undersea in Hollywood!

Undersea in Hollywood!

Nominated for Best Original Score

Hollywood Music in Media Award nomination certificate for Undersea score

Both surprised and deeply honored to receive a nomination at the 2019 Hollywood Music in Media Awards for Best Original Score for the Undersea project, an amazing Mixed Reality experience I composed and led audio on at Magic Leap Studios.

The HMMAs honor original music in all visual media, from film and television to video games and emerging platforms. Being recognized in that company, and in a category that placed an MR experience alongside more established media, felt like a genuine acknowledgment of spatial computing as a legitimate creative frontier.

The nomination placed Undersea alongside some strong titles in the Video Game category: Borderlands 3, Days Gone, League of Legends, Layers of Fear 2, Rend, and the eventual winner Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by Sarah Schachner. Not bad company at all.

The ceremony itself, held at The Avalon in Hollywood, was an extraordinary evening. Walking the red carpet with photographers and a gathered crowd, then sitting down to a VIP dinner surrounded by some of the most accomplished composers in the industry, was something else entirely. Alan Silvestri was nearby, and won the award that night for Avengers: Endgame. Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) was there as well, nominated for Alita: Battle Angel. The room was, to put it plainly, stacked!

The nomination was a significant milestone in my career, one I didn't see coming, and a night I'll certainly remember.
