Undersea - Behind the scene

Exploring the Creative Journey

Undersea began as a simple demo created by Magic Leap Studios, featuring a single fish that interacted with your hand. This demo led to a human-sized spherical aquarium filled with a coral reef and various fish species.

Although the initial demo was relatively static, it resonated with audiences and provided the Magic Leap team a glimpse into a new way to showcase the potential of spatial computing.

Check out the behind-the-scenes video with the team that brought Undersea to life:

Built with Unreal Engine 4 and Vulkan 3.1 for mobile on Magic Leap One, Undersea is part of an ongoing series of curated experiences. These experiences enable internal developers to enhance their understanding of creative, technical, and production challenges while delivering magical user experiences and sharing insights with the broader creator community. Magic Leap Studios' first consumer project, Create, aimed to provide an inviting entry point to the platform while showcasing the core features of Spatial Computing in a fun and engaging manner.

Check out a more audio-focused demo from a device capture, along with some explanatory comments. The video quality is not great; the team at Magic Leap is working to improve this feature. However, capturing something that originates from a generated light field is challenging.

Another video, this time from Unreal, provides a clearer picture of the quality. However, the surroundings will be black, as all content is meant to adhere to a physical environment.
